Hey – it’s Jorie here. Did you know that impaired control of the hip and trunk can increase the likelihood of ACL tears? For example, abdominal muscle fatigue contributes to hamstrings injuries. Patients with ankle sprains have shown a delay in onset of gluteus maximus and medius activation. It’s all connected!! Don’t just strengthen around the injury, strengthen the whole body to prevent further injury! Not sure where to start? Set an appointment with us and we’ll set you on the path to injury prevention!
New Year, New You
The holidays have come and gone and now we are well into January. Here at Fit2Excel we want to help you achieve your goals, and that includes keeping your new years resolution to be healthy and fit. It is important to remember that making significant progress towards your goals is hard work, a short-term diet or workout plan will likely not get you there. Health and fitness is a lifestyle, the one that we at Fit2Excel embrace!
It is not wise to start out the New Year at full-speed towards your goal, you will likely get worn-out and unmotivated. Instead take small steps that build off of each other. Attend one more class a week, swap out soda for seltzer, or white bread for whole-wheat. Every week make another healthy change in your life and you will acheive your goals!
Jorie Farnsworth – ITAT
Congratulations to our very own Jorie Farnsworth for becoming a certified ITAT! What is an ITAT you ask? While athletic trainers are already experienced across the range of athletic injuries, including concussion, ITAT certification provides additional training that includes the latest concussion management research and treatment options available, as well as the use of the ImPACT software.
Jorie is a graduate of the University of Vermont where she studied Athletic Training. She has been a member of the Fit2Excel family since she started here while still in college as an intern.
New Year – New Website!
The new year always holds such anticipation for new goals, new endeavors, new habits. Here at Fit2Excel we can help you meet many of these goals. For us, a goal for the new year is better communication with our customers – hence, a new website! We are thrilled to bring you a cleaner, fresher look for the new year and hope you are too! We welcome your honest feedback along the way. Stay tuned for more updates to our physical space as well!
Stay FIT!
How to Stay Fit this Holiday Season
While there is nothing wrong with splurging a little around the holidays, you probably don’t want to spend all of January working off your Christmas dinner. The number one rule to follow this holiday season is moderation. Have a cookie, a slice of pie, a glass of wine, and a rich dinner… but maybe not all in the same sitting.
If you are going to a dinner where you know the food may not be the healthiest, don’t go hungry! Have a healthy snack before you go so you don’t dive head first into the chips and dip the moment you walk through the door. Keep in mind that at many holiday parties there is a lot of mingling before dinner is served, so pick something that will keep you full. My go to is a small protein shake and a few almonds.
As always, stay active! If you will be staying around the Vermont area this holiday season, take advantage of the special holiday schedule we are offering at Fit2Excel. If you will be traveling, search online for workout videos to get your heart pumping or brave the cold and go outside for a run!
